LASC: TRAFFIC ARRAIGNMENTS AND TRAFFIC TRIALS MOVING FROM WEST COVINA COURTHOUSE TO EL MONTE COURTHOUSE

Effective Feb. 3, 2025, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County will transfer all traffic and non-traffic infraction arraignments and trials originating in the West Covina Courthouse, located at 1427 West Covina Parkway in West Covina, to the El Monte Courthouse, located at 11234 Valley Blvd. in El Monte.

The Court remains committed to providing access to justice and will continue to offer parties the option to appear remotely via LACourtConnect (LACC), the Court’s remote courtroom appearance platform.

Key Details for Litigants Previously Assigned to the West Covina Courthouse:

1. Courtroom Appearances

  • All courtroom appearances for traffic and non-traffic infractions and trials previously scheduled at the West Covina Courthouse, including arraignments and trials, will be calendared in Departments 5 and 6 at the El Monte Courthouse. Trials will be conducted in Department 5.
  • Litigants with scheduled court appearances at the West Covina Courthouse on or after Feb. 3, 2025, will receive a notice via U.S. mail informing them that their matter will be moved to the El Monte Courthouse. While the hearing date will remain the same, the time of the hearing may change in some instances. Litigants should carefully review the Court’s notice for information about scheduling.

2. Remote Appearances

  • Remote appearances via LACC are available for certain arraignments and trials, except:
    • If litigants have documents or other evidence, such as photos or videos, to present during trial.
    • If the defendant’s identity is in question.
  • Remote appearances for red-light camera infraction proceedings are permitted for arraignments only.

Key Details for Litigants with Citations Previously Assigned to the West Covina Courthouse Regarding Customer Service at the West Covina Courthouse Clerk’s Office:

  • The West Covina Courthouse Clerk’s Office will remain open for all services except for appearances before a judicial officer.
  • Litigants with infraction citations issued anywhere in Los Angeles County may:
    • Use the Court’s Traffic Call Center at 213-633-6300 to pay their citations or to schedule arraignments and trials.
    • Visit the Traffic Clerk’s Office at the West Covina, or El Monte Courthouse or any Los Angeles County Courthouse with a Traffic Office to pay tickets, enroll in a payment plan, schedule arraignments or seek customer services.
    • File a Request for Ability to Pay Petition online here.
